  • The Consultation Process

    ### Booking your consultation

Call our office at 317.721.7110 or submit the form on this page.

**A consultation with Dr. Robey is $100.** If you go ahead with surgery, that $100 is credited toward the cost of your procedure.

If you have had a previous procedure with another surgeon and would like Dr. Robey to evaluate it, the consultation is $150. This covers the additional examination and review that a revision assessment requires.

The fee is due when you schedule. You may change your appointment time with more than 72 hours' notice. ` 72 hours is the policy, and the fee is non-refundable if they cancel outright within 72 hours`

**We do not bill insurance.** All procedures are self-pay. You will receive a written quote at your consultation covering surgeon, facility, and anesthesia fees.

    ### Before you arrive

You will be asked to review and complete new patient intake forms:

    - Registration form

    - Patient medical history form

    - HIPAA consent form

    - Photographic consent form

You can return these before your appointment or bring the completed forms with you. We will also send directions to our office.

If you are considering breast augmentation, wear a non-padded bra. You will try on implant sizers, and a non-padded bra gives you the most accurate idea of how different sizes will look on your frame.

    ### Your appointment with Dr. Robey

You will meet with Dr. Robey for 25 to 30 minutes. You will discuss your goals with her and her medical assistant. She will examine you, take measurements, and — if you agree — take photographs.

She will tell you what she can and cannot achieve. If she thinks a different procedure would serve you better, or that surgery is not the right answer, she will say so.

    ### What you leave with

At the end of your consultation you will meet Dr. Robey's surgery coordinator, who will go through a written quote tailored to you. Every financial option is explained at that point.

You will leave understanding exactly how the process moves forward if you decide to schedule.

    There is no same-day pressure.

  • Understanding your Surgical Quote

On the day of your consultation, you will receive a surgical quotation. This quote will reflect Dr. Robey’s surgeon fees as well as additional expenses for  the facility and anesthesiologist fees, as well as any special equipment and medications.

The quote will list two figures for Dr. Robey’s surgeon fee. The first reflects our cash discount offer. Cash payments include cash, money order, cashier’s check, personal check, and ACH bank account information. The second figure reflects our pricing for payments made via credit card, debit card, CareCredit, and Health Credit Services. The last two forms of payment are medical lenders for whom we are a merchant. A line of credit through CareCredit can be obtained via their website. Health Credit Services lines of credit must be applied for through our office at the time of your consultation.

Your quote may also include pricing for the Exparel pain medication. Exparel is a non-narcotic, slow-release numbing agent that is administered at the time of surgery. The analgesic effects of Exparel last for 72 hours, providing you with an extra boost of comfort during your initial phase of healing. Should you wish to take advantage of this medication, the $350.00 cost for the medication will be added to Dr. Robey’s surgeon fee.

Your quote will also include pricing for the surgery center. Dr. Robey operates out of the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center (CASC) unless otherwise specified. The surgery center sets their own fees, which we are not able to negotiate. The surgery center pricing applies to all forms of payment. The only forms of payment they will not accept are CareCredit and Health Credit Services lines of credit. All surgery cases under six (6) hours in duration will performed as outpatient procedures. Cases six (6) hours and longer in duration will require a 23-hour stay at the surgery center. If this applies to your case, this fee in the amount of $500.00 will be reflected in your surgery quote.

  • Paying for your Surgery

Upon selecting your surgery date, you will pay a non-refundable deposit of $500.00. This deposit applies to Dr. Robey’s surgeon fee, the balance of which will be due in full two (2) weeks prior to your surgery. There is no deposit for the surgery center; however, they also expect to be paid in full two weeks prior to your surgery. You will make two separate payments, one to Dr. Robey and the other to the selected surgery center.

To make the payment to Robey Plastic Surgery, please call our office at 317.721.7110.

    Insurance Cases

In some instances, insurance may fully pay for your cosmetic procedure should they deem it to be medically necessary. Should your case be partially covered by insurance, you will pay what is known as a split case fee. The fee you pay will cover any cosmetic portions of your procedure that insurance will not pay against. While Dr. Robey and CASC are in network with several insurance providers, we always advise patients to do their research into their own deductibles and co-insurance fees to ensure the cost of paying the out-of-pocket full cosmetic case fee. Should you require more information about the surgery center’s potential billing for insurance cases, you can call St. Vincent billing at 317.338.8035. You will need to provide them with the insurance CPT code for your case (our office can provide you with this information). With that code, they will be able to give you an idea of how much they will bill insurance, which will give you a better understanding of how much you may owe down the line.

  • Preparing for your Surgery

As your surgery date nears, there are many things you will need to organize on your end so you can ensure your surgery and healing process goes smoothly.

Within 24 hours after scheduling your surgery, you will receive an emailed information packet. This packet will include all information you’ll need in preparation for your surgery. All of our policies are outline in this packet, and your signature will be required on all policies to ensure you are in agreement. These policies include:

    • Additional Procedure Requests Policy
    • Financial Responsibility Policy
    • Surgical Revision Policy
    • Schedule Request Consent

This email will also include your surgery balance information and due dates, and instructions on how to make your payment to the surgery center. Your perioperative instructions will be provided via this email. All applicable supply consents and warranties will also be included. Please review, sign, and return all forms no later than one (1) week prior to your surgery.

    Time Off Work

For most procedures, we recommend securing one week at home to begin healing. For more extensive cases, such as the Indy Mommy Makeover, we recommend taking up to two (2) weeks off. We are happy to provide you with any necessary documentation, including completion of patient provided FMLA paperwork, to secure you have adequate time off work. We can also provide work notes for your pre and post-operative appointments. In some cases, you will have labor and lifting restrictions. We are happy to provide you with paperwork that reflects these post-operative requirements.

    Caretaker

As important as giving yourself time to heal is ensuring you have someone to help you for the first 24-48 hours after your surgery. You will not be able to drive, operate machinery, or perform regular tasks for up to 24 hours after receiving general anesthesia. Please provide us with the information of a caretaker who will drive you to and from your procedure and help you at home for the first few days following your surgery. It is a good idea to share your perioperative instructions with your caretaker.

    Pre & Post Operative Instructions

Once you book your procedure, you will be provided with extensive pre-operative instructions that will let you know how to prepare for your surgery. Dr. Robey may recommend that you cease taking certain medications and/or supplements 2-3 weeks prior to your surgery. She will also recommend that you do not smoke or use any nicotine products for three (3) weeks prior to and three (3) weeks following your surgery. Nicotine negatively impacts your body’s circulation and subsequent wound healing.

Similarly, all anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) will need to be stopped for two (2) weeks prior and two (2) weeks after your surgery. Certain prescription medications may be continued pre and post procedurally. Please disclose all regularly taken medications at the time you book your surgery.

Please do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your procedure. Doing so will result in your surgery being pushed back or rescheduled at a penalty of up to 50% of your surgeon fee. It is okay to take your prescription medications with a sip of water as required.

Post-procedural instructions vary based upon the surgery. You will be provided with, and will need to sign, procedure-specific post care instructions. This information will include wound care instructions as well as list out any and all restrictions.

    Prescribed Medications

Prescriptions for all necessary pain medications and antibiotics will be prescribed soon after you book your surgery. These medications generally include narcotic pain medications. Please be aware you are not allowed to drive or operate machinery while taking narcotic pain medications. Our office may have specific instructions for obtaining your prescriptions based on your insurance provider and pharmacy. Please be sure to review all prescription instructions with our office prior to picking up your prescriptions. Please be sure to obtain your prescriptions prior to your surgery.

  • The Day of Surgery

Most procedures are performed as outpatient procedures, unless otherwise specified on your surgical quotation.

On the day of your surgery, you will arrive at the surgery center for check-in 90 minutes prior to your procedure, and no later. Your surgery time is subject to move up or be pushed back, so please plan on making yourself available for the entire day. Please bring your photo ID and insurance card with you on the day of surgery.

Prior to your surgery, you will meet with Dr. Robey to review the surgery plan and potential risks for the final time. You will be marked and then taken into the operating room. At this time your anesthesia (either general or local) will be administered and your surgery will begin.

Immediately following your surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room. You will be awoken from your anesthesia as your vital signs continue to be monitored. If you are staying at the surgery center for the night, you will be taken to your room at this time. One adult guest is able to stay the night with you. They will need to register with the surgery center upon check-in.

Upon being discharged, your caretaker will be able to take you home.

Post-operatively, Dr. Robey will check in on you within 24 hours following your surgery. She will want to see you in office two (2) weeks after your procedure -- one (1) week for rhinoplasty and facelift procedures. If you should need it, Dr. Robey will ask you to start your silicone-based scar gel two (2) weeks after your surgery. We carry Biocorneum in our  office. It is the only FDA approved silicone based scar gel, and it is Dr. Robey’s prefered product. After your initial follow-up appointment, Dr. Robey likes to see patients in the following intervals:

    • 6 weeks
    • 3-6 months
    • 1 year

  • Rescheduling or Canceling Your Surgery

We understand that unexpected events can arise and that surgeries may need to be rescheduled or canceled. We are happy to accommodate these circumstances, but please be aware that any cancellations or rescheduled surgeries that happen within 30 days of your surgery will be subject to a penalty of up to 50% of your surgeon fee total. The $500.00 deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances. Should I fail to show up for my surgery or fail to contact the office in the event of an emergency, I will be subject to a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the cost of surgery.  All custom implant fees are non-refundable.
